Past Work

In the past I have worked in a mixture of different Media including sculpture, installation, film, painting and performance. The general theme behind my work is very politically and Environmentally influenced. I am mainly an interdependent practicing artists

'[Untitled],' (2013)

With the use of sound and movement this living breathing piece was inspired by my on-going work ‘Consumption.’ Wanting to take the work further I decided to make the sculpture come to life. This installation represents a visual form of human’s slow destruction of our planet. We have exhausted the Earth’s natural resources, and as a result we have indirectly or deliberately damaged large areas of our planet for personal growth.
Using fabric and foam tubing, with the help of fans, the fabric billows in a manor very alike to other living creatures. As well as the use of sound the piece coughs and splutters. The work consumes a globe of our world. Just like some of the decisions we make now, which will affect the life span of our planet in the future.
A visual form of environmental issues we face today.

'Environmental Series,' (2013)

I have been working on a series of collage's on different surfaces. The work tackles Environmental issues from Deforestation to Over Fishing, problems the world faces today.

Using photographs, quotes and drawing, the work is there to provoke thought, and enlighten the viewer, without being to overbearing. Each surface contains a different message depending on my thoughts at that time. The surface I was working on also influenced the message on top, if there was a link, it only seemed relevant to place imagery and text from a similar background.

'Coke, Vodka, Water,' (2013)

These plants have been fed over a period of weeks liquids we as humans regular consume. This was all done in the hope to see some form of visible side affect of these liquids on the plants growth that would usually be invisible on a human. Each plant is placed in alphabetical order, the same as the title of this temporary piece.

Coke (C): The plant that was fed only coke at first it grew to the same strength as the plant fed only water. However, there was one difference. The smell of this plant was unbearable, the coke like it would to a human has caused the plant to smell. Coke causes bad breath in humans, the plant also suffered from this in its own way. Eventually it began to wilt and change color to a yellowy green, light brown and in some parts purple.

Vodka (V): Alcohol dehydrates, the plant dried up and slowly died after being fed only vodka in this experiment. It didn't last long.

Water (W): This plant was fed only water to make it easier to see if their was any visible change to the ones fed vodka and coke. As expected it grew fine, and didn't smell. It was perfectly healthy.

 'Consumption,' (2012)

This is only the start. So far this sculptural piece has only three sections. It is a work which will slowly grow over
a period of years as it builds onto itself. The overlapping of separate pieces represents our slow consumption of our planets natural resources. Slowly the original structure will be lost, to represent the way we use up the planet. The idea is that over time this work will grow. As the work progresses it will change so dramatically that it will become unrecognisable; in the same way that we consume our planet, which soon will no longer be recognizable to us.

After working on the 'Consumption' piece I decided to to experiment with the idea of consumption on object. Using expanding foam I began to make some experimental work based on the visual form of humans destruction, the foam is placed on natural objects as well as imagery to represent this.

'Poster Art,' (2011)

Here I experimented with the concept of a simple poster. I drew the text and the image onto paper by hand, then photocopied it onto some heavier card. I made many copies of this basic piece which I then distributed to people across the country through the post with a request for a response by return with their reactions to my work and their opinions. Also knows as Mail Art. I was asking people to graffiti my Art.

The posters speak for themselves, there were some mixed messages, but some people loved this concept. The current environment didn't just affect me, but the whole country. So It only seemed right to get the opinions of others involved in the making of this work. The end result was much greater than the sum of its parts.

Videos

'Man cannot eat Money,' (2012)
New film based on a prophecy by the native American Cree people.
Our consumerist attitude towards life could one day be our downfall, and the cause of our planets destruction.
"When all the trees have been cut down,
when all the animals have been hunted,
when all the waters are polluted,
when all the air is unsafe to breathe,
only then will you discover you cannot eat
money."
~ Cree Prophecy ~

[Untitled],' (2012)
The idea to create a piece of work that had been started and influenced by the whole of the UK was something I has really wanted to do for a while. My posters work were only from selected few. However, I had an idea to look online and use what's on there. The finished result is this approximately five minute long Video Composition. What is shown here are some samples of images and videos that have been influenced by the opinions of those that made them, not by me. The images shown are from other people who have made a point to verbalize their reflections on the current Political Climate within the UK.

TUDC - The Unlimited Dream Company

The Unlimited Dream Company - Performance Art Collective:
The Unlimited Dream Company presents 'The Unlimited Dream Company.' Was a group collaborated performance. Based on the novel by JG Ballard. The Unlimited Dream Company was fused together to present an exhibit as part of the Ballard's Art Festival in Lincoln, 2013. The exhibit run from the 7th to the 10th of May in 2013. Located at The Greyfriars and the St Benedict's Centre.
The exhibition consisted of live performance as well as individual static works. The Performance began at The Greyfriars, then continued through Lincoln High Street to Finish at St Benedict's, this was run once a day throughout the exhibit being open. The performance showed the story of Blake, (the leading man in JG Ballard's book, 'The Unlimited Dream Company') from his plain crash and rebirth in this state of Limbo. His confusion of being. Then the moment of realisation of his pure overbearing power and finally the end, his body alone in limbo. Throughout there is a constant theme of human to bird transformation, as the book consists of different forms of animal metamorphism.
Located at St Benedict's were individual static works made by each artist, each work was inspired by a section of the book also.
As an extra to the exhibit, The Unlimited Dream Company visited Westgate Academy, and St Faith's Church of England Junior School, where a few members work with the kids to make there own bird masks. These were later exhibited in St Benedict's alongside the Art.
The group was interviewed by Lincoln Art Scene, asking questions about how we preform as a group as well as questions about our first exhibit 'The Unlimited Dream Company.' Have a look for yourself at: http://lincolnartscene.wordpress.com/2013/05/21/q-and-a-with-the-unlimited-dream-company/

Limbo,' (2013)
Made by Holly Bowler

In a state of Limbo between life and death the books main character is a trapped soul, waiting to be freed, he can absorb the souls of others to give him strength and releases them if he chooses.
The people of Pompeii came to mind when I thought of Blake, almost alive in this sealed plaster form. They themselves look like trapped souls.

I have recreated the look of the people of Pompeii as I would picture Blake once he was left behind at the end. A full plaster cast of myself, with the souls of the others slowly seeping out, lifeless, but still you can see some life left behind
